Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt

Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt

Guten tag from Nuremberg! It's my first time to Germany, and I have decided it is an underrated country in terms of places to visit. It is BEAUTIFUL.

It is December first and we are having such a festive start to Christmas this year in Germany. We took off from London and decided to spend 11 days touring a few of Germany's famous Christmas Markets starting with Nuremberg.

Nuremberg is a beautiful city, with lots of history. And it also happens to have the most beautiful and vibrant Christmas market that dates back to at least 1628!

After visiting a few of London's Christmas Markets-they made me feel pretty bummed out when I realized that the stalls were repeats of the stalls before them, and there was nothing special about the goods they were selling.

Nuremberg has been such a different experience. Every booth seems different, and thoughtfully curated. There is a sense of pride in the booths, some beautifully decorated with apples strung along the fronts and others with sprigs of spruce tree. A prominent red stripe with green trim theme is followed making for the most beautiful backdrop. It's the perfect market. Beautifully eclectic with very little kitsch. It's the Christmas market experience you dream of.

While traveling on sabbatical we have resolved to only buy what we love, which made Nuremberg tricky. We found a LOT we loved. While I have left quite a few Christmas ornaments I would have loved to keep behind for others, I did happen to get my hands on an angel topper, a miniature wooden nativity, as well as a few german wooden Christmas ornaments that I'm sure we will treasure when we are back at home.

If you go- be sure to eat some gingerbread "lebkuchen" as well as a Nuremberger grilled sausage sandwich (3 tiny sausages to a bun) while visiting. Oh and be sure to take the short hike up to the castle to look down at the old city center. It is beautiful.

Until next time, Nuremberg!
